Myopia limits our distance vision capabilities. It’s the primary reason that people are restricted to glasses or contact lenses on their drivers licenses. The primary cause of myopia is the shape of the eye. Eyes that grow longer than normal cause light to focus in front of the retina. This creates a blurry image and requires correction that moves the focus of light back to where it belongs.

Myopia can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses and eye surgeries. But wouldn’t it be wonderful if it could be prevented in the first place? Recent scientific evidence tells us that it can.

Studies now show that therapeutic contact lenses worn by children can actually prevent their eyes from growing too long-thus preventing myopia!

Orthokeratology has long been used to provide temporary correction of myopia. Specially designed contact lenses are worn while sleeping and removed in the morning. Normal vision is then maintained for the rest of the day. New studies now show that when orthokeratology is used in children, their eyes actually grow differently. Their eyes do not grow as myopic as they would have without orthokeratology intervention.
