We conducted our own macular degeneration (AMD) study this year to determine which of the “no zinc” formulations provided the best absorption for our patients. We have written previously about the newly discovered risks of taking the wrong AMD supplement. A patient’s genetic profile actually determines what supplement is most appropriate for them.
TAKING THE CORRECT SUPPLEMENT
WILL SLOW THE PROGRESSION OF AMD — BUT —
IF WE TAKE THE WRONG SUPPLEMENT,
WE ACTUALLY INCREASE OUR RISK FOR VISION LOSS!
Many supplements are created from the AREDS2 formulation and contain significant amounts of zinc. This is great for some patients but bad for others. To confuse things even more, some patients should have ZINC ONLY without all the other ingredients. Many people ask us how they can determine which supplement to take. The answer is simple – they need to take an inexpensive and non-invasive test to learn which supplement is best – AND SAFEST – for their genetic profile.
